Filing a false police report is a Felony 2nd degree which can get you 5 yrs in jail if convicted by the district attorneyWhat happens if someone files a false police report?
Your friend advised T-mobile her phone was stolen when it was actually damaged. That's fraud. If the fraud is discovered she could be prosecuted. If your friend filed a police report or caused a report to be filed with the police, that would be ';filing a false police report';. Depending on what state this occurred in, it could be a misdemeanor or a felony.
Filing a false police report is a crime and can be punished by a fine or jail time and possibly community service. Remember, by filing a false report, you are wasting police time and manpower, possibly leading to the arrest of an innocent person, and generally obstructing justice. Sounds like your friend is out a phone for a while.
If you haven't actually filed a report yet just tell them you thought it was stolen but you found it. Your friend will have to save up for a new phone, or maybe next time be a little more careful.
Tell her to tell them that she found it! But that it was soaked in water. That should take care of it!

You can get in some trouble lying like that!
They better start lubbing up
