What is the penatly for filing a false police report?

what could happen to herWhat is the penatly for filing a false police report?
Why would a person file a police report at all for minor damage? If its for an insurance claim, its usually not required (although the companies like you to). But making a false insurance claim is probably a felony depending on the amount.

Although, there isn't really any way for the insurance company to find out. What is the penatly for filing a false police report?
She could be charged with making a false report. It's more serious if she falsely accused an actual person.

False reports, even without a false accusation, take up police resources that are needed to investigate real incidents.

The penalty would vary by jurisdiction. Where I live, falsely accusing someone is a crime, while making a false report of an incident that didn't happen is a disorderly persons offense.

*Edit--If the false report was for insurance purposes, that would be fraud and a far more serious crime. In addition, if the actual accident was a ';hit and run';, that's a separate charge in itself.*
if they find out that she actually did file a false report... i don't think she would be looking at time for the police report, but rather they'd consider calling it ';insurance fraud';, which she may or may not face time with, depending on the severity of the wreck and the amount that is to be paid by the insurance company.
heavy fines and or 6 months in jail
If found out, jail time or at least major court fines.
