can i get compensated for damages? how?If i loose a job for a false credit report and that report has caused me great damage, what should i do?
First, get a copy of your credit report. If you suffered adverse action (that is lost a job) you can get one for free from each of the three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax and TRW). Go to their websites for instructions. Carefully examine the report, and if you find any mistakes, contact the creditor that made a mistake and dispute the bill. Also contact the credit bureau (E, E or T above) and tell them you dispute the entry. They have up to 30 days to confirm the debt, correct the error, or remove the entry. If they do not do one of these three things within 30 days you can sue for damages under the fair credit reporting act.

However, if the damaging item is correct, you can't get damages.

If the damaging item is incorrect, but you didn't notice it before and dispute it, I'm not sure if you can get damages. You would have to see a lawyer about that.
