Isn't there a law preventing news television from false reporting?

Yesterday on FOX NEWS the legal expert reported Howard K. Stern was in the roon with Anna Nicole and her Son when they died and was a murder suspect. This all turned out to be a false report. CBS 2 first reported that illegal drugs and prescription meds were found in Anna Nicole Smith's hotel room. This turned out to be a false report. I always thought the television news had some legal obligation for presenting truthful facts? No? Not anymore? Not EVER?Isn't there a law preventing news television from false reporting?
Fox News does that all the time, that's why most people don't take Fox News seriously.

Just 2 weeks ago Fox News claimed that Hillary Clinton spread a rumor about Barack Obama being taught at a Jihadist school. That turned out to be false. 6 years ago Fox News declared George W. Bush the next American president before the counting was even done.

Those are 2 examples off the top of my head. I'm sure they may be a law regarding it but the person being reported about has to sue in order to get anything done. Here's a tip: next time don't watch Fox News because there's a greater chance of them getting something wrong than right.Isn't there a law preventing news television from false reporting?
No there are no laws which is why they ';news'; is now starting to use blogs and rumor websites and stating information found there as fact.

The news today is who can get the highest rating and sensationalizing the news has become the norm, not the exception.
News is based upon witnesss REPORTS - if the witnesses lie or give false information, why should the news be held liable?
