Why don't police who file false reports get charged with crimes in the United States?

A considerable number of police officers and police departments in the United States file police reports that are not entirely accurate. Now that video can clearly demonstrate false claims by the police on their official reports, it is becoming more clear that police do not always try to be accurate on the police reports, probably because if they file false reports they get in less trouble.

So my question is why there is no felony crime involved in police filing false reports? Furthermore, why are police officers usually found not guilty of the misdemeanor of filing false reports, even when video directly contradicts their written testimony?Why don't police who file false reports get charged with crimes in the United States?
Having that same problem here in Austin Texas. A cop got a medal of valor in the line of duty after lying about the events that took place. He lied on record, did not follow police procedure, and even worse the police Chief Art Acevedo who gave him the medal still says he stands by the officer after the facts came out! How messed up is that? The police did not investigate only took the word of the police officer. The victim spent 13 months in jail, lost a leg, and his family had to spend all of their money on a private investigator to prove that the officer lied about the shooting. The police are corrupt! There have been a number of shootings here in Texas where the ';suspect was lying face down one of them cuffed on the ground and then they were shot in the back and killed! The officers only lost their jobs but faced no criminal penalties! It is happening all over the U.S.! No wonder why people are shooting back! Wake up and arm yourselves America it is only going to get worse!Why don't police who file false reports get charged with crimes in the United States?
So, how did you go about compiling your data? How many false police reports were turned in by officers in 2008?

Why is 20-30 considerable rather than 10?

Also, how did you gather data about the dispositions of police officers charged with filing false police reports? I ask because you must have read through a considerable number of cases in order to be able to claim the things you have claimed.

How do you get in less trouble if you file a false report if there's so much video evidence to show that you're lying?
If a LEO files a false report he/she would lose their job. Being fired is a lot more serious than a fine or probation. I have a real problem with your statement, ';A considerable number of police officers and police departments in the United States file police reports that are not entirely accurate';. Where are you getting this information? What do you mean by 'considerable'? It's hard to answer a question such as this without you stating your sources for making such a broad statement and without using accurate information from reliable sources. Do that and I'm sure you'll get lots of answers. If you are just making these statements up then that makes you a Troll. Well???
They *do* get charged. You never heard of the ';Riders'; cases in Oakland, CA?

';Why don't police who file false reports get charged with crimes in the United States?';

Do you have a source to provide credibility for this question?

';A considerable number of police officers and police departments in the United States file police reports that are not entirely accurate.';

Again, a source for this outrageous position would be helpful.

And ';not entirely accurate'; is entirely subjective and quite possibly not a crime.

';Now that video can clearly demonstrate false claims by the police on their official reports, it is becoming more clear that police do not always try to be accurate on the police reports, probably because if they file false reports they get in less trouble.';

Okay. And evidently not all posters on Yahoo make genuine attempts at being accurate, etither.

';So my question is why there is no felony crime involved in police filing false reports?';

Assuming that's true, I'd suggest it's because the legislative body where you live has never passed a statute making it a felony. That's sort of basic Government 101.

';Furthermore, why are police officers usually found not guilty of the misdemeanor of filing false reports, even when video directly contradicts their written testimony?';

Again, assuming this is true (do you always make accusations without offering any sort of reference?) I'd suggest it's because under the system of law in use where you are, the officers are not guilty, plead to something else, or the legal system is just plain corrupt.

';I don't mean to say that police officers never get charged for filing false reports';,

So you must have just accidentally said it then, huh?

';only that it's not common for police officers to get more than a misdeameanor for filing false charges';

That would make sense since according to you there is no felony crime of filing a false police report.

';and also that they rarely get convicted of even that lesser crime.';

Okay.
Are you kidding? America is a very corrupt nation and you are living a fairytale.
