Do you feel that adressing or tackling the problem of false rape reports will harm victims of rape and/or?

result in more rapists in the street ?Do you feel that adressing or tackling the problem of false rape reports will harm victims of rape and/or?
I think that if the ';rapists'; really are innocent, they should be vindicated. No one should suffer punishment for something they did not do. That person's life is ruined just so the victim can ';feel '; better? I think that is wrong.Do you feel that adressing or tackling the problem of false rape reports will harm victims of rape and/or?
Rape can be a difficult crime to prove - it is often one person's word against the other. The victim is often traumatised, and humiliated. I do know women who have been raped, who would rather keep quiet because they cannot face the attention of the police, their friends, etc etc. It isn't so long ago that people used to say things like: ';she asked for it'; as an excuse for rape.

I think that if a person lies under oath, the crime is perjury. And if someone is found guilty of perjury, then they should face the consquences.

However, I don't think it is a good idea to categorize it as a ';false rape claim'; - it is perjury, and I think it should be confined to that.
Years ago, there was a movie on about a married man, with children, good citizen, but LOOKED just like the man that had been raping women in the area. He was a Postman. His life was totally destroyed. Wasn't allowed to be near his children, lost support from his community. He fought tooth and nail, and had I believe, an attorney who fought to prove his innocence. He was innocent, I believe they caught the real guy in the act. When the two men passed each other in the police department, the facial similarities were uncanny! His life was never the same.

I'll bet there are quite a few men in jail that did not commit this crime. And have no recourse to get out, relying only on a detective who believes them, and DNA. There have been recent releases due to new DNA proof...One guy 20+yrs, and one man hung himself the day before finding out new evidence would be proving his innocence.....That was within the last year or so....

I think there are men who are just rapists. They deserve to be put in jail for life.

But I also think that some women either are capable of saying she was to be vindictive, selfish, revengeful, etc. When it comes to a guy breaking it off, obsession, child custody cases, and ??? reasons. But also, they put themselves in a situation that got out of control. Such as getting totally drunk, or drugged out, and in the morning, ';oh god what did I do';, and have to face their parents perhaps.

It is a very touchy subject. Women need to be more cautious, and men do as well, as to who they are getting involved with.

No one should ever have to go through that kind of brutality.

The sentences, if proven guilty without a shadow of a doubt, shouldn't be 6yrs or out on a technicality. There should be examples made, LIFE SENTENCE, Period! No if's, and's or but's!!!!!
Yes it would make it more difficult to prove a rape case .

No I don't think it would have more or less effect of rapists on the street.
I say no. An allegation of rape is easily made, hard to disprove and carries with it alot of stigma, even if the accused is ultimately vindicated.

Indeed, I imagine the only worse thing than rape itself, is being falsely accused of doing it.
Anybody that reports a false rape shoud be jailed

this is a serious charge and can leave a person accused hurt for life.

so don't cry rape unless it's real
Yes. A reason to why rapists get so little time in jail is because of the ones that report false crimes. And that will definitely hurt those who tell the truth and want rapists behind bars for a long time. Instead idiots get out in no time, and many probably won't care because the time in jail is so ridiculously low that it's an insult.

Those who lie should get locked up.

It suck.
false accusations of rape,to my mind do a lot more harm to genuine cases, by taking credibility from those who have really been the victims of rape.not to mention ruining the lives of those men who have been falsely accused.those women who falsely report, for whatever reason, should be punished to the full extent of the law
statistically false reports are very low

i agree it is awful that some people choose to do this , it must be an absolute nightmare if your innocent

we should tackle the problem of why so many rapists get away scott free
Due to the social stigma attached to even accusations of rape, it is very easy for a woman to make allegations about a man. It's nearly impossible to prove that sex was consensual after the fact, and even if a man is vindicated the stigma usually follows him for the rest of his life.

Ironically, due to the differences between men and women, that falsely accusing a man of rape is about the closest a woman will ever really come to raping someone. For the amount of violation and helplessness that a person feels, someone who is falsely accused really is about on a par with a rape victim. Arguments that come up in a rape trial - like how a man sleeps around or has fetishes - isn't much different then the old 'she was dressed like it and asking for it' argument.

Women who are found to falsely accuse a man of rape should face the same charges that man would have faced if he was found guilty. By crying rape when there was no crime, that woman throws doubt into every real rape case - she gives legitimacy to an argument that lets real rapists walk free.

Although tackling the issue of false rape reports may result in far less convictions or reports of rape, I think that it wouldn't make a difference in the number of true rapists on the street. It WOULD make a big and positive difference in the number of innocent men in jail or whose reputations are destroyed by a vengeful woman.

I will admit that it is a very grey line and these allegations often come down to multiple conflicting stories. There may be no proof that backs either person's story, or the true story may be some combination of the two. However, when it is clear that the victim has lied the court should show no more mercy then they would have shown to the supposed rapist.
Unfortunately just because someone has been cleared of rape it does not always mean they are innocent of the crime. If every woman who claimed they were raped and whose cases were dropped or the men were found not guilty were charged with making false allegations then it would mean even less women would come forward after being raped.

It is notoriously hard to prove that someone has been raped and not consented to intercourse.
